Welcome to Hidden Giants

We are a group of researchers working on Industrial Strategy and Innovation Policy. Hidden Giants is an interactive webpage that provide indicators that can help policy makers in the design of Industrial Strategies and Policy.

Hidden Giants is inspired by research on innovation spillovers by our team. By developing P-Rank a new indicator of both direct and indirect spillovers, we show that most (>50%) innovation spillovers come from Hidden Giants: Innovations whose relative signficance is larger once indirect spillovers are taken into account. Ideally, industrial policy is guided by market failures such as innovation spillovers. We argue that taking those indirect spillovers into account is therefore crucial for efficient industrial policy.
